As one of the nation's largest nonprofit Catholic healthcare organizations, CommonSpirit Health delivers more than 20 million patient encounters annually through more than 2,300 clinics, care sites and 138 hospital-based locations, in addition to its home-based services and virtual care offerings.

The Adjutant Chaplain is a medical team clinician who supports a facility's Spiritual Care Department in delivering a healing environment for patients, families, and staff. The scope and depth of this position is limited when compared with that of a Chaplain who carries board certification credentials.

For all degrees, study in a theologically related field is preferred. An equivalency may be granted if the applicant can document four years of employment in an occupation that requires direct engagement with people, with at least two of those years in ministry related work with a faith-based organization or body.
  • At hire, applicant must have at least one unit of CPE or applicant may enroll in a CSH approved internal Clinical Pastoral Orientation (CPO) and complete the same within 12 months of hire. If the CPO option is utilized, A full unit of CPE that meets the standards of the next bullet point below, must be completed within 24 months of hire.
  • CPE Units are required to be from an entity that is recognized by an accrediting agency listed by the U.S. department of Education (DOE) or an internal CSH approved CPE program aligning with the competencies held by an entity recognized by the DOE.
  • Continuing Educational Standards Required: Adjutant Chaplains are required to complete 15 hours of continuing education in chaplaincy related topics annually (CY), except when enrolled in CPO/E (cf. Mountain Region ICCE guidelines).
