B & P Packing Company is a small carrot grower and producer in the Taylor Farms Family. We are currently looking for a Food Safety and Workers Safety Manager to help our operation. The Food Safety Manager will play an essential role in the food production and processing industry, ensuring that all products meet legal standards and are safe for consumption. This position involves overseeing the implementation and continuous improvement of food safety plans, managing audits and inspections, and staying abreast of regulatory changes. By coordinating with various departments, from production to distribution, the Food Safety Manager ensures that food safety practices are integrated throughout the supply chain.

The Food Safety Manager is also responsible for Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) Management. This involves identifying, evaluating, and controlling food safety hazards at critical points during the production process. Food Safety Managers play a pivotal role in ensuring the integrity and safety of food products from farm to fork by monitoring and documenting operational procedures. This approach facilitates the swift identification and rectification of potential food safety risks before they impact the consumer.

The Workers Safety Manager ensures the compliance of health and safety laws in the workplace. They develop and execute health and safety plans, enforce policies, assess risks, and promote a culture of safety. Their role is to create a safe work environment and minimize hazards to protect employees from occupational risks.

Responsibilities and Expectations:

  • Develop, implement, and oversee comprehensive food safety programs and policies to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including GFSI, HACCP, FSMA, and GMP standards.
  • Perform regular audits of facility operations, including processing, packaging, and storage, to identify potential risks and non-compliance issues.
  • Train and certify staff in food safety practices, protocols, and compliance requirements to ensure a knowledgeable workforce.

  • Directly responsible for the oversight of the night sanitation crew, and its manager, including hiring and training of new employees.
  • Spends some time each week working with sanitation employees to help address food safety, workers safety, and efficiency requirements of proper sanitation methods.
  • Investigate and address customer complaints related to food safety, including conducting root cause analysis, and implementing corrective actions.
  • Responsible for the management of third-party pest control programs and the company’s pest control management program to prevent contamination and ensure a clean and safe production environment.
  • Oversee the maintenance and calibration of chemicals and sanitation equipment to ensure accurate monitoring and control of food safety parameters.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and vendors to ensure their practices meet the company’s food safety standards and compliance requirements.
  • Manage inventory of all chemicals and responsible for keeping adequate supplies to meet production and sanitation’s needs.
  • Responsible for maintaining and updating the companies Environmental Monitoring Program.
  • Lead crisis management efforts in response to food safety emergencies, including product recalls and outbreak investigations, to minimize impact and ensure public safety.
  • Communicate relevant, non-conforming HACCP / Food safety issues to all managers and agree corrective actions within meeting structures.
  • Respond to request for proposal requirements as they relate to food safety.
  • Oversees creation and implementation of corrective action plans associated with resolving non-conforming issues as identified from audit processes.
  • Creates internal reporting metrics/scorecards to determine production efficiency and influence of QA measure to improve product quality.

Qualifications:

  • Preferred relevant degree such as Bachelor's and Associate Degree in Science, Microbiology, Education, Chemistry, Biology, Technical, Associates, Biological Science, Business, Manufacturing
  • Preferred certifications in HACCP, PCQI, GFSI
  • Technical competence in analytical chemistry or microbiology. Knowledge of how pathogens, spoilage organisms, and fermentation agents interact with food products is imperative. Food Safety Managers use this expertise to guide the development and implementation of safety protocols, effectively identifying and mitigating microbial risks throughout the food production process, from sourcing raw materials to distributing the final product.
  • Minimum of 3 years QC/QA department experience in the food or beverage processing industry required.
