Traveling to other sites such as schools, homes, festivals, businesses, and housing communities is expected. • Assisting the department to identify, plan, and implement evidence-based and actionable preventative programs to address issues such as mental health, substance use, and social needs to enhance wellbeing.
  • Working with Health Inspectors to conduct inspections, sample collection, and routine surveillance on environmental health programs.
  • Conducting research and analysis to develop public health policy, operational procedures, program materials or evaluation, and other educational resources.
  • Coordinating and conducting outreach activities to support current FHD activities.
  • Working collaboratively with all team members to assure an equity-focused approach to public health services.
  • Maintaining working knowledge of the Fishers community, neighborhoods, and organizations.
  • Providing outreach to community members at local events such as farmer's markets, festivals, school events and other locations.
  • Performing additional projects and other duties assigned.

Minimum qualifications include:

  • High school students in their junior or senior year;
  • Second, third, or fourth year of undergraduate program, or enrolled in a graduate program, and pursuing a degree focusing on public health, epidemiology, community health, environmental health, social work, or related disciplines; or completion of similar degree within the past 12 months;
  • Valid Indiana Driver's license and ability to be insured to drive city vehicles except for high school student interns;
  • Attention to detail is required;
  • Ability to work in a team environment;
  • Must exhibit flexibility working with a wide variety of populations and organizations;
  • Must be able to work occasional evening and weekend hours based on business needs.

Supplemental information includes:

  • Accountability to the highest professional and ethical standards are expected.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality are required in accordance with the agreed upon schedule.
  • Work will include regular interaction with employees and the public. Periodic duties may require performance in non-office settings, outdoors, or at a variety of locations external to the FHD administrative offices.
