Job Summary
The Pharmacy Technician II is responsible for providing pharmacy services, including dispensing, preparing, compounding, and delivering pharmaceuticals; performing inventory control; conducting compliance audits; handling financial transactions; providing customer service; and maintaining pharmacy records. The role involves calculation, measurement, and compounding in accordance with USP and best practices. Works as part of an interdisciplinary patient care team under the direction of Clinical Pharmacists or Pharmacy Leadership. May assist in onboarding and training staff. Functions may be in Ambulatory Pharmacy, Inpatient Pharmacy, Infusion Pharmacy, or Pharmaceutical Research settings.
Primary Responsibilities
The following statements describe the general nature and level of work and are not exhaustive:
Selects, packages, and labels medication and supply orders for pharmacist inspection and approval. Processes medication orders accurately, including patient and insurance information. Ensures correct drug selection, labeling, and fulfillment.
Maintains, tracks, and monitors inventory levels of medications and supplies, communicating stock needs and shortages appropriately.
Uses medical informatics systems including order-entry, automated dispensing devices, bar-code technology, clinical integrated systems, and other pharmacy applications in daily duties.
Delivers medications and pharmacy products to patients, agents, or patient care areas in compliance with medication handling, storage, and security standards.
Calculates, measures, and compounds medications according to USP 795, USP 797, USP 800, and other established practices; may include non-sterile, sterile, and hazardous compounding.
Collaborates with healthcare team and pharmacists to identify and resolve patient-specific medication management or therapy needs.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education & Experience Required
High School Graduate or equivalent
Maryland Technician Registration, Maryland Pharmacy Intern Certificate, or Pharmacy Student Technician Exemption Certificate for students in good standing at an accredited School of Pharmacy
Minimum 6 months of experience
