Freight Broker Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee and facilitate shipments on behalf of clients
  • Research hauling companies
  • Negotiate between clients and carriers to help secure better rates for clients
  • Arrange for transportation and provide necessary tracking information to clients
  • Work to build relationships with customers
  • Freight Broker Requirements and Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED certificate
  • 2 years of experience in a similar role or a proven track record of sales experience
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, especially Outlook

Freight Dispatcher Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the pickup, delivery, and tracking of freight orders
  • Track shipments to ensure timely delivery
  • Maintain communication with customers, carriers, and other transportation personnel
  • Monitor and update order status in the transportation management system
  • Resolve any customer issues or complaints in a timely and professional manner
  • Communicate any delays or other potential issues to the customer
  • Monitor driver hours of service and coordinate necessary breaks or rest periods
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations

Other responsibilities:

  • Maintain and report equipment mileage weekly
  • Maintain Samsara ELD system
  • Tracing loads in the ITS dispatch board
  • Posting/selling loads on DAT
  • Maintain RMIS carrier monitoring systems
  • Assist Operations Manager with any needs for the office

Freight Dispatcher Requirements and Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2+ years of freight dispatching experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge of DOT regulations and hours of service
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and customer service skills
  • Proficient in transportation management systems and other related software
  • Able to multitask and prioritize tasks in a high-pressure environment
