Job Summary

The Clinic/Medical Assistant (CMA) functions as a member of the clinic patient care team and performs both Clinic Assistant and Medical Assistant duties as directed by the Clinic Manager or designee. Responsibilities include clerical duties for patient check-in/check-out, coordinating the HMO referral and service authorization process, and providing technical support to medical and nursing staff. Clinical duties include taking vital signs, administering injections, performing diagnostic tests, collecting specimens, drawing blood, sterilizing and cleaning equipment, and maintaining examination rooms and supplies.

Essential Functions

  • Escorts patients to exam rooms and measures and records vital signs.
  • Prepares patients for examination or treatment and performs routine screening tests.
  • Assists physicians with procedure set-ups and patient examinations.
  • Administers medication and performs routine examination and treatment procedures.
  • Schedules and maintains patient appointments.
  • Collects patient demographic and insurance data.
  • Assures appropriate verifications and authorizations are complete before patient sees provider.
  • Collects and sends specimens to appropriate labs for testing.
  • Documents clinical information and maintains accurate patient documentation.
  • Processes requests for prescription refills.
  • Maintains inventory of supplies and keeps exam rooms clean and orderly.
Minimum Qualifications

Education: High School diploma or equivalent. Completion of a recognized Medical Assistant training program.

Experience: One (1) year of progressively responsible and directly related work experience.

License/Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of inventory management practices.
  • Ability to educate patients and families on care and treatment.
  • Ability to perform standard clinical procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English.
  • Ability to demonstrate customer service skills.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and meet deadlines.

Pay Range

Minimum to Midpoint Range (1.0 FTE): $61,630.40 to $69,867.20
